Day by day
DAY 1 Arrive Blantyre, on to Mulanje
Met at Chileka International and driven the two hours out to the massif. Lodge check-in, and an evening looking up at the mountain.
DAY 2 Mulanje — up the mountain
An early breakfast and a guided climb past Likhubula Waterfalls and up onto the plateau, with a night in a mountain hut at the top.
DAY 3 Mulanje — back down
The walk back down the mountain, and a night at the lodge in the foothills to rest.
DAY 4 Over the Zomba Plateau to Liwonde
The scenic road up and over Zomba, with a short walk at William Falls and a stop at Emperor’s View, then on to Liwonde National Park.
DAY 5 Liwonde National Park
An afternoon river safari on the Shire — hippo, crocodile, elephant and birdlife from the water.
DAY 6 Liwonde National Park
A morning game drive for antelope, elephant and whatever else the park is holding.
DAY 7 To Cape Maclear
Three hours north to the lake, into a lodge on the bay, and a sunset cruise with fish eagle feeding.
DAY 8 Cape Maclear
Boat cruises to Thumbi West Island and the Ilala Gap, and snorkelling among the cichlids.
DAY 9 Cape Maclear
Village walks to see the fishing life of the bay, and a last afternoon on the water.
DAY 10 Departure
The four to five hour drive to Lilongwe and the drop-off at Kamuzu International.
