Two of southern Africa’s best-known experiences in one trip: the walking safaris and big cats of Zambia’s South Luangwa, then Lake Malawi and a river safari in Liwonde.
DAY 1 Arrival in Lilongwe
Airport pick-up, hotel check-in, and an evening orientation in Malawi’s capital.
DAY 2 Drive to South Luangwa
The cross-border drive into Zambia to Mfuwe, lodge check-in, and the rest of the afternoon to settle in.
DAY 3 South Luangwa
Morning and afternoon game drives, with an optional walking safari. Lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe and hippo, and some of the richest birdlife in the region. Evenings around the campfire.
DAY 4 South Luangwa
A second full day in the park — more drives, more walking if you want it, and the chance to see the valley at a different time of day.
DAY 5 Return to Lilongwe
The drive back across into Malawi, and overnight in Lilongwe.
DAY 6 Lilongwe, then on to Cape Maclear
A guided morning in the city — Old Town markets, cultural centres and the Nature Sanctuary — then leaving for Cape Maclear at midday.
DAY 7 Cape Maclear
Boat cruises out to the islands, snorkelling among the cichlids, and village walks along the bay.
DAY 8 Cape Maclear
A second lakeside day: swimming, more time on the water, and a sunset cruise.
DAY 9 Drive to Liwonde
South to Liwonde National Park and into the lodge on the Shire.
DAY 10 Liwonde National Park
An afternoon river safari on the Shire — elephant coming down to drink, hippo in the shallows, crocodile on the banks.
DAY 11 Liwonde National Park
A morning game drive for antelope, elephant and the park’s birdlife.
DAY 12 Departure
The drive back to Lilongwe and the airport drop-off.
